How has our lifestyle impacted the use of heating?

Practical tips to optimize the use of your electric heaters and achieve energy savings without sacrificing your comfort.

How the evolution of our lifestyles is also transforming the way we heat our spaces.

For a long time, housing was designed according to a fairly simple organization: you left your home in the morning, returned there in the evening, and heating followed this relatively stable rhythm.

Today, this logic has changed profoundly. Living spaces have become more versatile, daily rhythms have changed and presence at home has greatly increased. These developments directly influence the way we use... and heat our interiors.

Spaces that perform several functions

The development of remote work has changed the organization of many housing units. Rooms are no longer used as permanently as before.

A lounge can now serve as a place to relax, work or meet in a video conference. A room can become a quiet place to concentrate for a few hours.

In many interiors, we observe today:

  • longer days spent at home,

  • spaces that change function throughout the day,

  • a more irregular presence in the different rooms.

This evolution naturally transforms the needs in terms of thermal comfort.

Heating as before is no longer enough.

When heating a home in a uniform and constant manner, these new uses are not taken into account. However, temperature requirements can vary greatly depending on the time of day and room occupancy.

A space used occasionally does not need to be heated in the same way as a room occupied for several hours at a time. Similarly, some parts of the day require more thermal comfort than others.

Heating the entire home in the same way can then have two effects:

  • a waste of energy,

  • a comfort that is sometimes poorly distributed.

Adapting heating management is therefore essential to meet these new rhythms of life.

A thermal comfort that must be adapted

Today, heating is no longer limited to distributing heat in a home. It must also be able to adjust to the habits of the occupants.

An efficient radiator must be able to offer several essential benefits:

  • heating a room only when it is in use,

  • maintain a stable and pleasant temperature,

  • limit unnecessary energy consumption,

  • avoid uncomfortable temperature variations.

A high-performance interior adapts to its occupants

In a well-designed home, the equipment is not fixed: it accompanies uses and evolves with them. Heating is now part of this logic.

It is no longer a question of simply installing a device in a room, but rather of having a system capable of keeping up with the real pace of the household.

The heating then becomes a comfort management tool, able to adapt to the moments of presence, activities and specific needs of each space.

Evolving with lifestyles

Our lifestyles continue to evolve: remote work, hybrid rhythms, more flexible presence at home. Housing must therefore adapt to these new habits.

Heating is an integral part of this evolution. To remain comfortable and efficient, it must be able to support these transformations.

At Fogo, we design heating solutions designed for today’s real uses: radiators that combine design, performance and energy control to integrate naturally into contemporary interiors and provide lasting comfort in everyday life.
